WHAT IS READING OPENS DOORS?
Reading Opens Doors is an engaging, creative, flexible, fun and innovative online reading and comprehension program which has been designed to inspire children to read. This program is suitable for students in middle to upper primary school.
The beauty of this program is that it does not adopt a one-size-fits-all approach. This program has been designed to give students choice and flexibility with what they read and how they demonstrate their understanding of their chosen reading material. The students choose from 42 activities that offer a vast range of options, ideas and inspiration to share their understanding of a book.
The intention is for students to present creative, exciting and unique responses often using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM) principles. The activities challenge students to think laterally, problem solve and be innovative. The activities can be applied to any book, each one written to connect to one of Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences as well as one of de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats.
